o global view
o access to everybody so the service flow can be understood

* Methodology
o one diagram by protocol or service or application is usually the best
o one diagram covering several services could be clearer in some cases
- web: HTTP, HTTPS & HTTP/ICP for Squid proxy
- email: SMTP, IMAP & POP3
o several diagrams for one service could be useful on large diagrams
o each diagram includes all flows for the target services
